After setting a new attendance record in 2023 with over 170,000 visitors, Comicon – International Pop Culture Festival, returns to the Mostra d’Oltremare in Naples from April 25-28, 2024. A XXIV edition that comes with a pronounced international impetus: the official poster was created by one of the best-known and most appreciated North American cartoonists, Mike Del Mundo (X-Men, Avengers, Spawn, 3 Worlds / 3 Moons); filling the role of Magister will be Igort (Japanese Notebooks, Fats Waller, 5 is the perfect number), one of the best-known and influential Italian comic book artists in the entire European scene as well as editor and director. Hitoshi Sakimoto, composer known as “the Ennio Morricone of video games,” author of the music for more than 180 albums and soundtracks especially for video games including Final Fantasy Tactics and Final Fantasy XII, who COMICON will celebrate with a special orchestral concert-event in collaboration with Orchestra Scarlatti Junior, will arrive from Japan for the first time in Italy.

As per tradition there will be no shortage of exhibitions, and the first to be announced in this rich program of exhibition routes will be related to the official poster artist, The Mundo of Mike. The Art of Mike Del Mundo, and Magister 2024 author Igort. Landscapes of Memory. “COMICON Napoli 2024 will be an edition bound to shuffle new cards.

The goal is to present to the Italian public how new technological or artistic trends dialogue with tradition: video games with classical music or techno, digital comics with painting or street art, Italian journalism with Central European or American literature, advertising with drawing. So I welcome John Romita Jr. and Glenn Fabry, both for the first time in Naples. And I am especially honored to host Maestro Sakimoto for the first time in Italy, with a unique concert in the history of the festival. Finally, I am grateful to Mike Del Mundo for the evocative energy of his poster, and to Igort, the standard bearer of European comics, for agreeing to create the Magister 2024 Program with his vision as a boundless traveler.”- says Matteo Stefanelli, Artistic Director of COMICON.
