Men’s fashion in strong growth on the eve of Pitti Uomo 104

Italian men’s fashion in 2022 showed a positive performance in foreign markets, continuing with the favorable trend that was already recorded in 2021. As Istat data indicate, exports for the January-December 2022 period put up a double-digit increase of +24.7 percent over 2021, totaling about 8.9 billion euros. Imports also showed a double-digit increase, +43.9%, to 7.0 billion euros. This is the finding of the report “Italian Men’s Fashion in 2022-23 / Preview” compiled by the Confindustria Moda Study Center for Sistema Moda Italia and released on the eve of Pitti Uomo 104, which debuts tomorrow in Florence. With reference to trade outlets, the report points out that both EU and non-EU areas have proved favorable for the sector, growing by +25.6 percent and +24.0 percent respectively.

The EU market covers 45.4 percent of total industry exports, while the non-EU is the largest buyer, absorbing 54.6 percent. Similarly, in the case of imports, 41.4 percent of men’s fashion entering our country comes from the EU, while the non-EU guarantees 58.6 percent. The upcoming Pitti Uomo will see 825 brands (41% of them foreign) display their collections for spring-summer 2024, 140 more than the last summer edition. Last June there were 11,000 visitors to the fair, including about nine thousand buyers; this year the expectation is for significantly higher numbers.
