Wine, Planeta is the “Wine family of the year” at Meininger Awards

Sicilian winery Planeta won the title of “Wine family of the year” at the 18th “Meininger Awards Excellence in Wine & Spirit” held March 9 in Dusseldorf at the opening of Prowein. The jury, composed of journalists from the leading wine magazines of the Meininger publishing group, chose to award Planeta for “their long agricultural tradition in Sicily, handed down for 17 generations: over the years, this enterprising family has dedicated itself mainly to viticulture, extending its presence over 400 hectares distributed in six vineyards located in the best Sicilian terroirs. Today, the Planetas represent international excellence in island viticulture.

Receiving the award from the hands of the Meininger family were Francesca, Alessio and Santi Planeta.”We are deeply honored and grateful to have been recognized as ‘Wine family of the year‘,” said Alessio Planeta, adding that “this award is a tribute to the dedication and tireless work that our family has dedicated to viticulture in Sicily for generations; it is a testament to the passion and determination that have driven us to constantly strive for excellence in our vineyards and wines“. “Today, three generations of Planeta work in the company, with different roles and in great harmony,” recalled the company’s CEO, stressing that “this award motivates us and empowers us further to continue on the road of innovation and quality, carrying out our commitment to represent the Sicilian winemaking tradition at its best on an international level“. The recognition comes on top of the one obtained a few months earlier by Alessio Planeta as “Winemaker of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast.
