Expo 2025 Osaka: Italy and ANCI Collaborate to Showcase Italian Municipalities on the Global Stage

The Italian General Commission for Expo 2025 Osaka and ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities) have joined forces to highlight Italy’s municipal system at the World Expo. Through a memorandum of understanding, the two institutions will collaborate to promote local excellence, from major cities to historic villages, aligning with the themes of Italy’s participation in the event. The agreement, signed today in Rome, aims to transform the Italy Pavilion into a showcase of best practices and innovation from Italian municipalities. Immersive installations, multimedia storytelling, and textual narratives will highlight the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the territories, with a focus on local solutions to global challenges.

“Expo 2025 will be a unique opportunity to showcase Italy’s diversity to the world,” stated Ambassador Mario Vattani, Italy’s General Commissioner. “Thanks to ANCI, we will bring to Osaka not only major cities but also the villages that captivate Japanese audiences, with stories of tradition and innovation.”

ANCI Secretary General Veronica Nicotra added: “This protocol enables municipalities to share their creativity and ability to address contemporary challenges. It recognizes the central role of local communities in Italy’s international positioning.” The initiative reinforces Italy’s strategy to present itself at Expo 2025 as a dynamic ecosystem, where collaboration between institutions and local communities becomes an exportable model.
