Italian postage stamp celebrates Tex Willer

To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first appearance on newsstands of the western comic strip Tex Willer, the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy has issued an ordinary postage stamp, belonging to the thematic series the Italian artistic and cultural heritage, in a limited edition of 800,033 copies and four letter-closers with no postage value for a total of 78,052 letter closers.

The stamp, created by Gianluigi Bonelli and graphically realized by Aurelio Galleppini, is printed by the Istituto Poligrafico e Zecca dello Stato and depicts the popular hero riding his horse against the background of a typical Far West landscape while the letter closers show Tex Willer in various scenes from the comic strip. This is not Tex Willer’s first time on Italian stamps: it had already happened in 1996 on a 750 lire stamp in a series entitled Invitation to Philately.
