In the beating heart of Rome, where the shadows of the past intertwine with the dynamism of the present, the Essential Gallery at Campomarzio70 has become the stage for an extraordinary encounter between art and memory. On Via Vittoria, in that very Campo Marzio once consecrated to the celebration of Roman victories, the event paid homage to Made in Italy with the unveiling of Miti in blu (Myths in Blue), a numbered ceramic triptych bearing the signature of artist Margherita Lipinska. Trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk and a Roman by adoption, Lipinska possesses a rare gift for weaving together the ages within her work, drawing upon the visual power of Etruscan civilisation to bring forth figures such as Venus, Ares and the majestic Etruscan Horses. These last — symbols of strength and ancient nobility — are not merely mythological icons but archetypes of a refined culture that helped define the very roots of Italic beauty.
For this exclusive ceramic project, the artist collaborated with the master craftsmen of Deruta, using digital images of her own works as a guide. Yet it is on her large-scale canvases that her most profound stylistic signature truly emerges, where materiality becomes the protagonist. Upon the finest quality fabrics and against backgrounds of deep, sombre tones, figures appear to float within a dreamlike abyss, illuminated by gilded marks that cut across the surface. These same strokes — found also on the ceramic triptych to instil movement and dynamism — shatter the stillness of the composition with a vibrant touch of light.
It is on her celebrated canvases, however, that Lipinska’s research reaches its zenith of tactility: through the use of mortars and structured compounds, she deliberately induces cracking during the drying process. This artistic device bestows upon the canvases a lived-in, authentic soul — a celebration of imperfection in pursuit of a higher form of perfection, where every fissure tells a story layered in time.
