In the collective imagination a watch is a Swiss-made product, a company that is founded by a 20-year-old – possibly in a garage – with a crowdfunding operation is definitely stars & stripes and a BB (Bello e Ben fatto) product is definitely Italian.
Venezianico is the company founded in San Donà di Piave in 2017 by Alberto and Alessandro Morelli, two brothers in their early twenties, who didn’t start out in a garage, but not having an office made their first professional meetings in a Burger King.
The two young entrepreneurs, who with their project to make automatic watches that celebrate Venice through the customisation of the rotor and aiming to become the Italian reality of reference in the field of watchmaking, managed to recover the initial capital of $800,000 thanks to three rounds of investment on Kickstarter, challenge the great certainties of the collective imagination but, above all, prove that Venezianico is a sustainable project from an economic-financial point of view as well.
With more than 14,000 watches sold through its e-commerce and a retail network in Italy and over 80 countries worldwide, Venezianico had a turnover of 2.7 million euros in 2021 and is about to launch a new challenge with the proudly Italian design of the Nereide diver’s watch with a tungsten bezel and 42 mm case in 316L steel, named after the submarine Nereide, pride of the Italian Royal Navy, launched in Venice in 1913 and the inspiration for Venezianico’s entire diver line.
For the launch version, already sold out, the watch is offered with a blue dial, white baton hour markers treated with Super-LumiNova, unidirectional 120-shot bezel with tungsten insert and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal. The Nereide Tungsteno is fitted with an elegant steel bracelet designed by Venezianico and inspired by the art of an exceptional Venetian, Antonio Canova known as “the new Phidias”, the greatest exponent of Neoclassicism in sculpture. The choice of a bracelet alternating polished and brushed finishes and fastened with a butterfly clasp is apt to underline the company’s desire to define a sporty yet classic style for a timepiece suitable for any occasion. The diver is equipped with the Swiss Sellita SW200-1 calibre, a mechanical movement with automatic winding, and is offered on the market at a list price of € 895.00.
