Lupaia, discovering life’s little pleasures

Situated in the heart of Tuscany, between the Val di Chiana and Val d’Orcia, Lupaia is the perfect retreat where time slows down and expands, the mind regenerates and the body indulges in the peace and quiet of the Tuscan hills.

Immersed in nature and affiliated with Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Lupaia, with its 12 rooms and suites, was recently awarded the Michelin Chiave, a new recognition for excellence in the hotel experience by the prestigious Michelin Guide, which last May unveiled the first Italian Michelin Keys. Lupaia offers an experience that goes beyond mere relaxation: combining comfort with unique activities that bring back an appreciation of life’s little pleasures.

For this summer season, the hotel offers its guests a series of activities designed to experience the essence of the most authentic Tuscany and enjoy the nature that surrounds it: walking, trekking through the surrounding trails, and truffle hunting, guided by Pierpaolo, the skilled local truffle hunter who has been doing this job since the age of 14. From June to November, guests can try their hand at searching for black truffles, and towards the end of the season also white truffles, concluding the experience with a dish of homemade pasta, prepared by the chef, in combination with the truffles they have picked. E-bikes, available for guests throughout the season, allow you to explore the breathtaking landscapes of the area, visiting medieval towns and the surrounding vineyards. Guests can choose between circular routes to Montefollonico, Pienza and Montepulciano, or let themselves be guided by Andrea, an expert cyclist and guide, who will reveal the most scenic routes and places of refreshment along the way. Upon returning from these activities, guests can enjoy the Sunset Negroni: an aperitif, prepared by Lupaia’s barman, and served at sunset under a romantic pergola, overlooking Montepulciano, amidst the enchantment of the soft lights and colours of the sky.

A stay in Tuscany is not complete without an authentic gastronomic experience, and here guests have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the local cuisine with private lessons in the recently opened Kitchen Lab, new this season. Together with one of the chefs – Andrea or Luca – you will prepare a typical three-course Italian lunch to be enjoyed here.  The experience begins with a visit to the organic garden to gather fresh herbs and other products of the earth. Classic dishes such as homemade pasta, ragù and cantucci will be included in the menu. Speaking of herbs, one of the most curious and authentic experiences is foraging, under the guidance of Caterina Cardia, lecturer and expert in alimurgy, the science that studies the use of wild food in cooking. This is the starting point for foraging, an age-old practice in vogue thanks to the widespread focus on natural and sustainable foods, precisely to enhance the resources of the territory, raw materials, and biodiversity.

Finally, for wine lovers, Lupaia offers a private tasting of local wines. The Montepulciano and Montalcino area boasts some of the best in Italy. You will be guided to learn the difference between a simple red and a powerful Brunello, while tasting excellent Tuscan wines. The wine selection will be paired with small tastings from the hotel kitchen, creating a perfect harmony between wine and food. This is how, with its attention to detail and variety of authentic and fascinating experiences, Lupaia continues to excite and enchant its guests.
