Jannik Sinner makes history

After defeating Novak Djokovic in the semifinals, Jannik Sinner made an epic comeback and historic success in Rod Laver Arena, by defeating Daniil Medvedev, the 27-year-old Russian, world No. 3, after nearly four hours of play.

After losing the first two sets 3-6, 3-6, the Italian switched gears and won the last three by the score of 6-4, 6-4, 6-3. For Sinner, the first Italian to win the Australian Open, this is the first career Slam, while for Italy it is a return to success in a Grand Slam tournament after 48 years, since – in 1976 – Panatta won Roland Garros in Paris.
