Ambassador Marrapodi hosts the Leonardo da Vinci Award in Istanbul

In the setting of Palazzo di Venezia in Istanbul, Italy’s ambassador to Turkey, Giorgio Marrapodi, hosted the “Leonardo da Vinci Award” ceremony, organized by the Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Istanbul, to honor an Italian and a Turkish company that distinguished itself during 2022 for bilateral direct investment. Special guest of the evening was Turkish Minister of Industry and Technology, Mehmet Fatih Kacir. During his speech, Ambassador Marrapodi highlighted how at a time of great international complexity “Turkey remains a strategic trade partner and friend of Italy, as demonstrated by the intense contacts at every level.” The important economic cooperation milestones achieved by the two countries were also recalled, the record figure of 25 billion euros of interchange in 2022.

As a Turkish investor in Italy was awarded Desa, a company operating in the apparel industry (particularly leather goods) based in Istanbul. In Italy it has its own showroom in Milan, which opened in 2013, and in July 2022 it invested in a new factory in Tuscany. As an Italian investor in Turkey, the award went to Pietro Fiorentini SpA Group, operating in the natural gas and energy sector. The company, also through a strategy of mergers and acquisitions, has consolidated its position in the Turkish market.
