150 years of Italian immigration to Brazil

On June 28, on the occasion of Kolchagov Barba’s charity show aimed at raising funds for the children of Brazil’s favelas, we met H.E. the Brazilian Ambassador to Italy, Renato Mosca de Souza, who told us about the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of Italian immigration to Brazil where, to commemorate the arrival in Vitoria (in the state of Espirito Santo) of the ship La Sofia on February 21, 1874, every year on that same date is celebrated the ‘Italian Immigrant Day’. One of the initiatives marking these celebrations will be the exhibition in Rome of panels by the Italian-Brazilian artist Candido Portinari, ‘War and Peace’, which are part of the permanent collection of the United Nations, in New York. A blood relationship, the one between Italy and Brazil, but also of great relevance in terms of investments of Italian companies in the Brazilian economy, in addition to the relevance of bilateral trade. In fact, between January and March 2023 alone, bilateral trade reached USD 2.5 billion and trade between the two countries is booming.
